You Can't Time The Market

My Ballard Power (BLDP) jumped today. It had hit over $12.00 and I figured if it stayed true to form it would creep back down, especially since I found ZERO news about why it was shooting up. It made no sense. So I sold it at $12.05. Not 20 minutes later and it shot up higher, to like $12.50. I figured, oh well, I bailed too soon. A little later I checked it again and it had hit a high of $13.12! Darn it... But hey, at least I ended up with a $500 profit!

Lesson learned - Use a Trailing Stop in the future when you are in the money.

Well, if it goes back down I wouldn't be against buying some more. I think there is potential with that company, but I needed to take me some profit.

yeah, that's defnitely a nice little chunk of change... I'd wait to see if it drops pretty good... then pick it up, wait until it goes back up and sell off again...

What methods of research do you use for picking stocks?

I look at trends, stochastics and moving averages and watch for channeling between support and resistance. However, back when I bought this stock a couple years ago it was based of a recommendation from one of my investment magazines - but I don't do that anymore.
