I am exhausted!

Well, my website is taking shape slowly. I had hoped to have most of it done by now, but I changed my mind a a few times about how to format it. I am opting to use frames, rather than layers and tables, to flesh out the basic design. My design program (Dreamweaver) keeps hanging, which means I might lose changes once in a while, so I am saving often so I don't lose all my work. So my temporary page is sitting there for the moment. But that is the least of my worries!

A week ago we noticed a condo in our area for sale. Since we have been planning on moving to North Carolina since July, but haven't taken serious steps to make it happen, we thought we'd find out how much it was being sold for. The realtor has been VERY active in our condo complex, and from what we have seen and heard, he is getting TOP dollar for the condos. One of our neighbors sold his two bed and two bath for $189K. We figured we'd be lucky if we can get $150K for ours. Anyway, we called him to find out how much the one on the market is selling for and we ended up talking to him about selling ours.

Flash forward a few days. He called us to see where we were in the process of preparing for the sale. We told him we were still packing up stuff so we didn't have so much clutter, and we wanted to paint and get the carpets cleaned. My wife made an appointment for us to meet with him tomorrow, and we spent part of the weekend packing up stuff. We still had a ways to go.

Yesterday my wife stayed home from work because she had an ear infection. While there she decided to work on packing some more. While she was at home, the realtor called her with a referral for a painter. This painter could do our place, but it would need to be done by the end of this week, since he is going on vacation for two weeks. We talk to the painter and he uses quality stuff, will paint the ceiling (and pre-treat it for water stains), all the rooms and gloss coats for the doors and such for $1000. The clincher - they start on Wednesday and finish on Friday. We have to have all our boxes and lose stuff out of there before they start, and all furniture and such moved away from the walls.

Last night I worked my ass off! I hauled a bunch of stuff down to our garage, took out loads of trash, and we still have more to do today - including the laundry. So, my wife stayed home today to do more work, plus she still wasn't feeling well, and I'll work some more tonight. We're going to board the dog and cat for a few days and we may stay in a motel for a couple nights. We're really moving forward with our plans to sell and move. Finishing the bathroom tile was one step, but getting a bunch of stuff packed, painting and possibly listing our property this week are three HUGE steps.

If all goes well, we may be celebrating Thanksgiving or Christmas in a new house somewhere near Greensboro, North Carolina.

First of all - frames are evil. I had my site designed around frames for a while, and people bitched. Re-arranged it to use layers and it's all good, even though it takes longer to load!

Secondly - why are you moving to North Carolina?

Why??

Have you ever been to Greensboro? It's beautiful there!!

I can't imagine anyone not wanting to live there...hell I would go if I thought I could get a good job there. Almost moved there once about 6 years ago and the job fell through.

Basically, it comes down to, "why move at all?" - most of the time, a move messes up finances, and drives everyone nuts for a large portion of a year.

Well, once we sell our condo I don't think finances will be an issue for a while. My wife purchased it over four years ago through HUD and paid $69K. If the realtor can get us the figure he mentioned, we'll make $90K in the sale (less commission).

We're planning on paying off all our bills, putting a down payment on a house, and should still have enough left over for some decorating and investments.

Good for you. So, what made you even look at NC?

Tell me about it!

I am having a bitch of a time putting together frames... I am thinking about going back to layers - it's less of a hassle! I am also thinking of switching from Dreamweaver to Frontpage...

As for North Carolina, we can sell our condo out here for around $150K (1 Bed, 1 Bath) and buy a house out there for the same price, but much larger (we are looking at 4 Bed, 3 Bath). Not only that, but I can move out there and keep the same job I have now, making the same money. The weather isn't too different (just a little more humid during the summers), and it's very lovely out there - lots more trees and greenery and not as much concrete as SoCal.
