I have a question for my friends in the medical field... I had a great idea for a novel, and one part of it involves organ transplant. The question is this:

If someone receives a donated organ, is the information about the donor readily available? Is it easy to obtain, or does someone have to do a lot of research to find out where the organ came from?

I appreciate any and all help!

As far as I know (from a pathological love of forensic mysteries and tv) the donee is not told anything about the donor other than possibly age, sex, cause of death.

I am not a doctor nor have I ever played one on tv. /disclaimer

Yeah, but we are full of useless information and trying to avoid doing anything constructive.
