When I consider that three years ago I was facing fatherhood for the first time I relaized that I had written some poignent entries to my unborn child, and perhaps I should do something similar for our new addition. Now that I have a few years of experience to draw upon, I think the message for our little boy may be different that what I wrote for Emily, but more than likely just as heartfelt and entertaining. So, without further delay, Part One: Letters for My Unborn Son!
"My son, you do not know me yet.
I am Myk-El. I am your father. By
this time, you will have reached
your seventh month in Earth time
and I will have been here almost
thirty six years in Earth time.
Although there are certain things you
already know of human ways and
wisdoms, there are many questions
that have puzzled and confused you
as you search for the answers to your
life. Although I am speaking from the
present, I have tried to anticipate them.
Your name is Jensen. You are
the only product of a either a Christmas or
News Years Eve celebration. Although you will
be raised as a human, there's a chance
you could be stranger than some of them.
After all, I am your daddy and that has an impact.
Your journey through life might be a difficult one;
a sense of humor sometimes separates us
from others. You'll have great powers of
observation and you may be confused as to
how to use them. All this I know. Here in this
journal, a place of solitude, I will
train you for the tasks that lie ahead.
Now let us work together to complete
your education. Over the years I will
instruct you in language, arts,
and sciences of Earth as well as the far
more advanced knowledge of comedy.
Now, my son, we turn to a more
difficult subject - virtue. How does a
good man live? This is not yet -- not
even on Earth -- a precise science.
So I can only tell you what others have
thought and what -- what I myself believe --
Though you can be an example to others,
do not set yourself above them.
Lead by inspiring. Weigh carefully
-- as even ordinary men should --
the rewards life offers. Never use
your powers for personal gain, Jensen.
Never.
Live as one of them, Jensen, to discover where
your strength and your power are needed. Always
hold in your heart the pride of your special heritage.
We can be a great people, Jensen, we wish to be.
We only lack the wisdom to seek the light to show
the way. For this reason above all, our capacity for good,
I have sent them you... my only son."

Date: 2006-07-18 06:28 pm (UTC)I'm actually half-surpised that you didn;t go the Nicholas Cage route, and name yer son, Kal-el...
Of course, I know that Mindy had a say in it, and I'm sure that would get vetoed quick...
Just like Dana won't let me name the kid Ford, or Duke.
